Taurus Firearms

Welcome all to the website that offers you pin to point information on all types of firearms. This is interesting to know that as these firearms have a long history and story of their variants and becoming better the history of those who manufactured them are even not less interesting. Therefore we have made an attempt to provide you with the researched information on those who brought these weapons in to being, the creators of the firearms and their innovators. In continuation of the series on the firearms manufacturers on this webpage you will find information on the Tauras firearms. The company has its origin roots in Alegre, Brazil, where it was founded in 1940s. It shows that the company has made significant progress during last 65 years otherwise the world of firearms is competitive enough to weed out the novices in the industry. Tauras firearms are sometimes marked to be as the copied ones from the famous and expensive firearms and offering lower cost and similar features making it ‘not so popular’ within the industry with other firearms manufacturers. Yet in our opinion no two firearms can be same and also all firearms are same because they all have same objective of discharging the projectile with high velocity at the target. We understand that the variant, models, color, size, caliber, gauge, type does makes difference yet they do the same thing in different ways for different conditions. Therefore for the purpose of this article we consider all the Tauras firearms as the better deals on their existing counterparts that were alike yet expensive. Tauras produced their first ever revolver in the year 1941.

This first revolver was named Model 38101SO. Another turning point for Tauras was the Beretta’s contract in 1974 with Brazilian army to produce small arms with in Brazil by constructing a factory using labor from Brazil itself. the contract ended well in 1980 but this factory was sold to Tauras under ‘ready for expansion’ circumstances in the southwestern coastal city of Sao Paulo. This ready gold mine resulted in the popular Taurus PT-92 and PT-99 9mm pistols. PT92 by Tauras firearms is similar to Model 92 from Beretta but Tauras was able to provide frame safety from either hand usage which was not there in Beretta. The famous Raging Bull revolver, for its different style of grip was also produced by Tauras firearms. At the start Tauras Forge (read Forjas Tauras) was a small tool making factory. Even today it is an important tool manufacturer in Brazil. The company also bought the Beretta production facility in Brazil and produced pistols in different calibers. Today Tauras Firearms produces pistols with steel and polymer frame, revolvers, and rifles and submachine guns for law enforcement authorities. The PT92 pistol from Tauras is still a handgun of choice for many police departments. We are providing basic information on this variant form Tauras Firearms as it was one of the most popular product of the company available in single or double action. It is a 9mm Luger, double column magazine, semi-automatic, short recoil action pistol. Interestingly PT92 is a licensed replica of Beretta 92, and is available in varied finishes and grips. Alike Beretta, PT92 has open slide design. Earlier PT92 was same as Beretta 92, but recent changes made it better and different. Now it has a magazine catch, an ambidextrous safety working as a de-cocker in down position and 3-dot style sights. The advantage is that Tauras firearms PT92 is cheaper than Beretta 92, with no distinction in performance. Some of the variants available were PT99, PT92C, PT100, and PT101. Today Forjas Taurus or Taurus Forge has become one of the largest small arms manufacturers in the world.

It is noteworthy that in the year 1970 a company called Bangor Punta has purchased 54% stake in Tauras firearms. It was the same company that had purchased Smith & Wesson therefore making Tauras and S&W as subsidiary of the same parent company. In the year 1977 the stake was bought back by the Tauras firearms. Tauras firearms did not stopped here, in the year 1982 opened a Miami, FL, USA based affiliation as Tauras. The first year was not that good due to limited marketing but situation changed dramatically in next few years. Now Tauras firearms wanted something to enter the US market that could create ripples, so they had this never before idea. For the first time in the history of firearms in US a company offered an unqualified Lifetime Repair Policy. This one single marketing idea changed everything for Tauras firearms in the US market of firearms. Everyone was talking about Tauras and broke the records of sales for Tauras. ISO 9001 in the year 1994 added for the celebration causes of the company. Only two companies so far have been able to obtained this certification.
