The founder of the company John Marlin died in 1901, leaving the legacy to his two sons, who took over the business and started expanding the business. During the WW I the company was sold and was renamed as Marlin Rockwell Corporation. The company became the largest producer of the machine guns for US and allies during the period of WW I. The business went well up to 1923 after the war, and then was sold in an auction to Kenna. Frank Kenna, the bidder got the Marlin firearms in 0 but with a huge liability of 0000. However Frank Kenna was determined to make it a success, and he did succeeded in his mission because even today the company is owned and managed by the Kenna family. The need and demand of the time has introduced changes in the models produced by the Marlin firearms. Today the company has seen 170 years of existence and stands firm to continue for another longer innings. It was the inventors at marlin firearms that produced the first side-ejecting, solid-top receiver also called the Marlin Safety in the year 1889, and in the year 1953 introduced the Micro groove rifling system for higher accuracy. Recently in the year 2004 marlin firearms have introduced T-900 fire control system for bolt action rimfire rifles.
